Today marks mine and Dan's two year wedding anniversary. Wowza! I'm sharing one of my favorite things that resulted out of our wedding planning. These stellar (and hilarious) engagement photos by our good friend Will Nunnally of Will Nunnally Photography. He captured us perfectly.
Although we've been an item for for over a decade it often feels like our relationship is still a new, blossoming bud of laughter and crazy antics. As cheesy as it sounds, I find myself falling in love with Dan over and over all the time.
I'm not gonna lie. Dan and I were pretty resistant towards the whole M-word for a while. Which is largely why we dated for nine years before getting engaged. Looking back, it seems silly that we had so many reservations, but perhaps we wouldn't feel that way now had we not waited so long in the first place.
Sure! We've had our spats. My guess is that those exists in any healthy marriage (I'm no therapist, so don't quote me on that). Luckily Dan has an A-plus sense of humor and reminds me not to take life (or myself) too seriously. It's because of that balance that we manage to find a way to learn and grow, not only as individuals, but as a couple through the messiest messes.
One of the things that scared Dan and I most about getting married was the risk of losing our identity and stifling our goals. In many ways, we've both been able to pursue our dreams in a way we never would have imagined because of the sense of responsibility we feel for one-another.
When Dan scores a win in his writing career it feels like a win for me too. When he falls. I fall. Most importantly, we're there cheering one another on every step of the way and encouraging each other to pursue the things that are important without fear, or all of the other uncomfortable feelings that come along with being vulnerable about your goals in life.
We've got one-another's backs in every way imaginable and I wouldn't want it any other way. Here's to two times two-hundred more, Mr. #Caffburgh.
Follow that Dan on Twitter and the various publications he freelances for: AV Club, CoS, CBR, Pitchfork and AudioTree.
